What Are Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation?
Bed bugs are a nasty business, often hitching a ride on clothing, luggage, and furniture to infiltrate your home. While the adults are only 5mm in length, they can cause a surprising amount of frustration—leaving behind itchy bites and stains on furniture. These nocturnal bugs are notoriously hard to spot until a full-blown infestation is in full swing. If you aren’t able to spot an adult, there are other signs to look for if you suspect a bed bug infestation, including:
- Stains on your bedding, linens, or furniture. These stains can range in color from black or brown, caused by their droppings, to rusty red, caused by blood.
- Small, itchy red bumps on your skin. These are often found in small clusters.
- You notice discarded bed bugs exoskeletons. These appear tan to brown in color and are typically found around the sides of your mattress, along baseboards, and the seams of your furniture.
- There is a musty odor around your bedding or furniture.

How Can I Determine if I Have Termites?
Termites damage nearly 600,000 properties in the U.S. each year. There are two species of termites that are particularly hazardous to the structure of your home—subterranean and drywood. Because these small insects are typically burrowed under wood or underground, it is important to keep an eye on some of the more subtle signs of an infestation to avoid costly property repairs.
9 Signs of a Termite Infestation Include:
1. Drooping or discolored drywall
2. Wooden structures that sound hollow when tapped
3. Peeling paint and wallpaper
4. Small holes in drywall
5. Crumbling or damaged wooden structures
6. Small muddy lines around your home’s foundation
7. The presence of maze-like, discolored patterns on walls or floorboards
8. The presence of droppings, which appear like piles of salt and pepper around your foundation
9. You notice wings, which resemble fish scales, around your home
If you notice any (or all) of these signs, give Moore Pest Control a call. We offer a detailed inspection to understand the nature and scope of your infestation before providing a customized treatment plan. -
Are Spiders Dangerous?
Spiders get a bad rap, with the sight of one often sending shivers down spines and their webs being synonymous with Halloween. While it is true that all spiders are venomous, they actually use this venom as an aid in eating, not to harm us. In fact, a wide variety of spiders—known as orb weavers—have terrible vision, so will typically only bite when they are cornered. Additionally, most spider bites present themselves similarly to that of a mosquito bite—creating a red bump that can be itchy or tender. The two species of spider that are most likely to create a more severe reaction—and are present in Texas—are black widows and brown recluses. These bites can cause nausea, weakness, pain, cramping, and in severe cases, even convulsions and necrosis at the bite site. The likelihood of this type of reaching increases drastically in the most vulnerable populations, like children and the elderly. If you suspect you or a loved one has been bitten by one of these two spiders, give your family physician a call. They might refer you to the Texas Poison Center Network for treatment.
